On the following page there is presented short historical review of georgian folk music instruments, illustrations and sample recordings. These recordings are obtained from the personal archives of famous folk artists and different musical foundations. Some of them are recorded and processed by us for demonstration purposes only.

Georgian folk musical instruments are divided into the groups of string instruments, wind instruments, keyboard instruments and percussion instruments.

String instruments are divided into fiddlestick and touch-string instruments. To the group of touch-stringed instruments belong Panduri, Chonguri and Changi. Fiddlestick instruments are Chuniri and Abkhartsa.

The group of wind instruments includes Larchem-Soinari, unreeded and reeded Salamuri, Gudastviri, Chiboni, Buki, Pilili, Duduki and Zurna.

The group of keyboard instruments includes Buzika, Tsiko-Tsiko and Garmoni (Accordion)

Doli, Daira, Diplipito and Tsintsila belong to the impact tools.

Keyboard instruments: Garmoni (Accordion) and Tsiko-Tsiko can hardly be considered to be Georgian Folk instruments but taking into view their popularity and their two-century-long history, we decided to place them in our web-site.
